Kigali – Rwanda: March 28, 2018: Today, the board members of Media Council of Kenya visited Rwanda Utilities regulatory authority (RURA) for the purpose of learning and exchanging experience and good practices in matters of media regulation.
During the visit, this delegation of 13 people lauded the efforts of RURA towards the regulation and the development of media industry in Rwanda.
“We came here to exchange best practices, learn from each other's policies and regulations governing media sector in both Kenya and Rwanda. So, these discussions will enhance our knowledge as far as the review of Kenya Media regulatory framework is concerned.” Said Ahmed Ibrahim, one of the board members of the council.
Anthony Kulamba, Head of Media Regulation and Consumer Affairs Department at RURA briefed the visitors on the regulatory framework of media sector in Rwanda. “In Rwanda, the regulator plays a great role in the development of media industry by establishing the regulations, monitoring compliance, promoting the partnership with media stakeholders, among others. Our main mission is to create a favorable environment for this sector.” Said Kulamba
This Kenyan delegation concluded its 3-day study tour today and has visited different institutions including Media High Council, Rwanda Broadcasting Agency (RBA) and Rwanda Media Commission (RMC).
