As of September 2017, the total number of urban water subscribers has increased from 191,684 customers recorded in the second quarter 2017 to 195,961 customers recorded in the third quarter of the 2017, representing an increase of 2.2%.
The 51.8% of urban customers are in the City of Kigali while 48.2% of them are distributed in the provinces. This difference is mainly attributed to the fact that, some people in the provinces consume water supplied by Private Water Service Providers.
As of September 2017, the number of subscribers served by Rural Water Supply Providers was 24,033 customers and this represents 12.3% of all customers connected to WASAC network.
In the need to increase the hygiene and cleaning services in Rwanda, there are two categories of licenses issued namely cleaning services and solid waste collection and transportation. In the third quarter of year 2017, there are 26 new companies licensed in the cleaning sub-sector and one(1) new company licensed in the category of waste recycling.
