As of June 2017, the total number of water subscribers increased from187,137 which were recorded at the end of March 2017 to 191,684 as of the end of June 2017, and this represents an increase of 2.4%. These subscribers are distributed along different WASAC Branches.
The 52.2% of the total customers are in the City of Kigali while 47.8% of them are distributed in the provinces. This difference is mainly attributed to the fact that, some people in the provinces consume water supplied by Private Water Service Providers.
The number of subscribers has increased compared to the previous financial year. As the report indicates, the number of connected customers increased by 9% from 175,646 recorded as of June 2016 to 191,684 customers recorded as of June 2017.
The first two quarters of 2017 recorded an increase in water production. The Water produced under this period increased by 5% from 11,458,012m3 recorded in first quarter of 2017 to 12,080,589m3 recorded in the second quarter of 2017.
In the need to increase the hygiene and cleaning services in the City of Kigali and other parts of the country, there are two categories of licenses issued namely cleaning services and solid waste collection and transportation. In the second quarter of year 2017, fifteen companies were licensed companies in the cleaning category and no new company licensed in the category of solid waste collection and transportation.
